Big prizes, big judges, big opportunities: for emerging designers, the Redress Design Award 2023 has it all

Calling all emerging sustainable designers seeking to fast track their careers: the First Prize winner of the Redress Design Award 2023 will be invited to have a design collaboration with VF Corporation’s global outdoor lifestyle brand, Timberland.

In addition to joining the Timberland team for this once-in-a-lifetime experience, the winner of the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition will also take home HK$50,000 (US$6,400) in development funding, sewing machines from JUKI, and one year of individual access to all areas of Bloomsbury Fashion Central, all of which contributes to growing their circular fashion design skills. Meanwhile, their Timberland prize will provide a real-world, hands-on chance to learn about commercialising circular business models and reducing environmental impact from sourcing to product development.

To get their shot at this and other exciting prizes, this year’s emerging designers must impress an international judging panel of industry leaders representing various sectors such as retail, design, manufacturing, and communications. The judges will be looking for qualities of creativity, originality, sustainability and market viability in the competition applications. In the final round of the competition, the ten finalists will have to present their collections and pitch their concepts in a gruelling face-to-face judging session.

Meet the esteemed experts and find out more about them here:

  • Simon Au, Managing Editor, Vogue Hong Kong and Vogue Man HK

  • Orsola de Castro, Author, and Co-founder, Fashion Revolution

  • Kévin Germanier, Creative Director, GERMANIER, and 2014/15 Winner, Redress Design Award

  • Dorian Ho, Creative Director and CEO, Doriano International Ltd

  • Angus Tsui, Creative Director, ANGUS TSUI, and 2012 People’s Award Winner, Redress Design Award

This year, with the lifting of travel restrictions, we’re also excited to welcome the top ten designers to vibrant Hong Kong on an expenses-paid educational trip! In September, the competition finalists will touch down in Redress’ home city to participate in masterclasses and challenges for the Grand Final Week, as well as experience the thrill of our Grand Final Fashion Show, where their designs will debut on the runway and the 2023 winners will be announced.
