Tulika Ranjan receives the People’s Choice 2021 accolate and a spot in the Grand Final after wowing the public with her collection concept.

Following thousands of votes cast from across the globe, the public has spoken! The Redress Design Award 2021 People’s Choice Winner is India designer, Tulika Ranjan! As the most-voted semi-finalist, she is guaranteed a place in the Grand Final.

Tulika’s unisex collection incorporates upcycling and zero-waste techniques. Her Redress Design Award collection, ‘Just an Outlier’ aims to provoke conversation about mental health. She celebrates rebels with a cause, who don’t conform to the fabric of society and their grit that can lead to them being propellers of systemic change. Tulika sources undyed fabrics to ensure no trace of chemicals and upcycles them taking inspiration, both aesthetically and metaphorically from the Rorschach test, applying hand screen printing, inkblots and applique.

Tulika shared, “I love to research as part of my creative process and have visited Panipat - one of the world’s largest importers of secondhand clothes, big garment factories in Bangladesh through to remote weavers in Indian villages. I have seen first hand the real problems calling for real solutions and my dream is to be a part of this change.”

The People’s Choice Award winner will also receive a Juki home sewing overlock sewing machine and a digital copy of the Bloomsbury Fashion book The Dangers of Fashion: Towards Ethical and Sustainable Solutions by Sara B. Marcketti and Elena E. Karpova.
