Terms and conditions
The 2017 competition cycle is open to fashion designers with less than three years’ professional experience and fashion design students living in Asia, Europe and the USA* who are aged 18 or above (as of the application closing date on 3 April 2017) and who have less than three years’ full time or part time or freelance professional fashion design experience, or are a fashion design student in any year at an educational institute in Asia, Europe and the USA*.

The competition is not open to employees of Redress, their families, any of Redress’ agents and sponsors and/or advisors for the competition or anyone to whom Redress deems inappropriate.
Applicants are required to meet all deadlines and requirements specified by Redress and understand that late or invalid submissions will not be accepted.
Applicants can be disqualified by Redress at any time at Redress’ final discretion for failing to meet the deadlines, criteria, quality and entry requirements and other reasons as determined by Redress.
All works submitted must be original and must be entirely created by the applicant who submitted them and must not have been seen in public previously. Redress will assume no liability for the work submitted, accusations of plagiarism, copyright issues, or any intellectual property rights issues related to the entries and works submitted. The applicants must take sole responsibility and in such case, the applicant shall indemnify Redress for any loss or damages and his/her admission to the competition shall be terminated.
All decisions made by the regional and international panels of judges and Redress are final. Redress’ employees and the judges will not enter into any disputes or discussions from applicants.
All finalists must be available to come to Hong Kong in early September 2017 (exact dates TBC). Redress will be responsible for the finalists’ travel and accommodation costs including: visa (if required) to Hong Kong from the region where the applicant applied from, airport transfer in Hong Kong, accommodation in Hong Kong on a room-share basis, three agreed meals per day and travel between competition and event venues whilst in Hong Kong.
Any finalist who is required to apply for a visa to enter Hong Kong will be responsible for his/her own application, with the assistance of Redress. Redress does not guarantee a successful visa application, and in the event of refusal to enter Hong Kong of a finalist, his/her collection will remain to be shown during the Final Grand fashion show.
All travel bookings will be made by Redress, who reserves the right to choose the finalists; travel options, including in-direct flights and the choice of airline carrier.
Redress will not cover personal travel or medical insurance or any costs related to on-going or new medical costs during the competition or during the applicant’s visit to Hong Kong.
All applicants shall comply and observe the directions given by Redress and shall attend each event arranged by Redress, including but not limited to press interviews, photo sessions with local and international media representatives, online media interviews, workshops, seminars, fashion shows or social engagements.
All applicants agree to be filmed and interviewed participating in the EcoChic Design Award activities throughout the duration of their stay during the Grand Final week in Hong Kong. Additionally, applicants agree to filming while making their collections in their home cities.
Redress is free to use all works and interviews submitted by the applicants about their EcoChic Design Award collections for promotion, marketing and for display purposes without any prior consent from the applicants.
Redress owns the copyright of all photos and videos taken of the applicants during the competition and Redress is entitled, without limitation, to use and reproduce these materials for purposes including promotion, marketing, obtaining sponsorship and competition organisation. No copyright fees shall be paid to applicant(s).
Redress owns four outfits made by the finalists and shall use these for appropriate educational and promotional use after the competition, such as exhibitions and fashion shoots. Redress will select four outfits to keep for these aforementioned purposes. The designer shall be credited if and when their outfits are displayed after the competition’s completion.
Redress will not be responsible for any damages or loss of work suffered or incurred during the competition.
Any applicant who is under investigation, has been charged or who has committed a criminal offense of any kind at any stage before or during the EcoChic Design Award 2017 competition will be disqualified.
Redress reserves the right to limit, refuse or withdraw any applicant at any stage of the competition if the applicant is found to have violated any of the terms and conditions of entry listed herein.
Redress will not assume any liability for any injury, death and/or loss during the competition, including during the applicant’s visit to Hong Kong or during their transit from their place of origin.
Redress will assume no liability for loss and/or damage of any kind relating to the applicant’s employment or other contracts. Any conflicts arising from the applicant’s commitment to the EcoChic Design Award 2017 and Redress are solely the responsibility of the applicant.
All personal information will be kept confidential, unless with prior agreement with the applicant, and their personal contact details will be used solely for the purposes of the EcoChic Design Award 2017 and Redress.
Redress is committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination to ensure that no applicant receives less favorable treatment because of age, colour, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, nationality, national or ethnic origin, politics, race, religion or belief.
Redress reserves the right to change or cancel the scheduled date(s).
Redress reserves the right to change the prize(s) without prior notice.
Redress may accept and/or reject any application at its sole discretion.
Redress reserves the right to add and change the rules of the competition unilaterally and the applicants shall observe and abide by these rules.
If an applicant is found to be in breach of the terms and conditions, the applicant shall indemnify Redress and their affiliates for all its loss and damages, including legal costs.
By entering this competition, the applicant declares that all of their details are true and correct. The Chinese version of the terms and conditions of entry is for reference only. In the case of discrepancies, the English version shall prevail over the Chinese version.
